The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on supporters of various political parties in the Edo State to engage in issue-based campaigns, shun violence and attacks on innocent citizens.
The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Nehikhare made the call during the party’s weekly media briefing in Benin on Sunday. He noted that the party was dissatisfied with the progress, adding that those perpetrating violence were doing so to delay the forthcoming poll scheduled to take place on September 19.
It would be recalled that the Igarra Development Association (IDA) also raised concerns over the reported cases of violent election campaigns held by certain political parties in the state. Consequently, the group called on all political parties partaking in the forthcoming poll to embrace peace during the process.
Nehikhare also added that the Edo people were cultured and well-versed of the progress in the state, noting that the state was peaceful and it should remain that way. The PDP secretary further assured the people of the state that the police were in their task of arresting and investigating those perpetrating violence in the state.
Moreover, he appealed with the people of the state to continue to maintain peace during the process. Nehikhare also expressed gratitude to the party supporters for supporting the PDP candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki ahead of the poll, adding that he was doing all the outstanding work for them.
