Public places in Kenya like restaurants, hospitals, and other facilities have not had free condoms in their toilets for people to take.

Aside from the worries expressed by Kenyans, a government agency, the National Aids and STIs Control Programme (Nascop) has also shown concern over the shortage.

High taxes on the importation of condoms are said to be responsible for the shortage even though they are usually donor-funded.

Earlier this year, a tax dispute between the government and donors who import anti-HIV drugs led to a shortage of the commodity.
