Google has announced that Chrome support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will be discontinued early next year.

Chrome 110, which is set to be released on February 7th, will not be compatible with either of the operating systems. You can still use older versions of Chrome on Windows 7 and 8.1, but you won’t be able to install newer builds with new features and security updates.

Google suggested upgrading to Windows 10 or Windows 11 to continue receiving Chrome updates on a support page that revealed the news.

That may be difficult for those whose systems do not support more recent versions of Microsoft’s operating system, businesses that are still using Windows 7 or 8.1, and individuals who cannot afford to purchase a new computer.

Nonetheless, Google had to discontinue support at some point. The company noted that its timeline corresponds with Microsoft’s decision to end extended support for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on January 10th.
